Free Youth Mural Program
Yesterday, we had a very successful mural unveiling at Seva Food Bank in Mississauga!
I worked with Youth Wellness Champions from BGC Peel, alongside Peel Health Services to create a short arts program. The purpose was to paint a mural at our local food bank while also teaching and mentoring youth along the way.
It was a success! The youth ideated, designed and painted the mural while learning about tips, techniques and mural tools from measuring tapes to projectors. They did a wonderful job. And now, Seva Food Bank is home to yet another colourful mural to bring a sense of community and belonging into its space.
The project culminated with a mural unveiling celebration during which Mayor Carolyn Parrish presented a $10,000 cheque to Seva Food Bank! Here are some pictures,
For any of you teachers or parents who have youth interested in mural making or arts programming, I’ve uploaded the workbook + activities we created here as a free download!
Feel free to borrow, modify or consult our program and adapt it to your group of youth :)
Happy mural painting!
